CCLS "Stronger Together" Campaign: A Humanitarian Response to Lebanon’s Crisis
26 March 2026
As a result of the Israeli aggression on Lebanon, and the accompanying severe displacement crisis from the South and Beirut, the Cedar Center for Legal Studies elevated its approach to humanitarian work, moving toward developing its methods and implementing a qualitative transformation in its programs to ensure a more effective response to the needs of the displaced and the urgent situation.
With the transfer of a number of detainees from police stations and prisons in the South and Beirut to those in Tripoli, which led to a noticeable increase in overcrowding inside detention facilities, the Cedar Center, in cooperation with the relevant security agencies and prison officers, launched a humanitarian activity within the “Stronger Together” campaign which was launched by CCLS. During this initiative, 50 mattresses and 150 blankets were distributed to help ease overcrowding and improve basic sleeping conditions for detainees, in addition to 36 packages of essential cleaning and disinfecting supplies.
These aids were distributed at the detention complex in the Palace of Justice in Tripoli, the Qobbeh Prison which houses around 900 inmates, and the Justice Detention Center in Tripoli which holds about 150 detainees. These facilities are currently accommodating numbers far beyond their capacity.
The packages include personal hygiene items for prisoners, as well as cleaning and disinfecting materials designated for detention centers and prisons. Each package contains 8 types of cleaning products, contributing to better living conditions and maintaining a minimum level of hygiene and public health inside detention facilities.
In parallel, the center also began distributing infant milk in the shelters as needed, as part of expanding the response to include the most vulnerable groups, particularly children and women.
These aids target detention centers and prisons to alleviate the harshness of daily conditions, especially during this difficult period Lebanon is going through, and to reduce as much as possible the spread of diseases and epidemics.
This project is implemented by the Cedar Center for Legal Studies, with support from Medico International and Terre des Hommes Germany (TDH) , as part of their response to the current crisis in Lebanon, and in conjunction with the “Stronger Together” campaign which aims to support the most vulnerable groups during crises and conflicts, including those in detention facilities.
Through continuous coordination with security agencies, the Center ensures that these aids are delivered in an organized and effective manner, directly improving daily realities inside detention centers and prisons.
Stronger Together… to stand by each other in all circumstances.
